Here is the website from Fresno City College about Soto's Library Museum : Just opened this Winter - "Gary Soto Library Museum" at Fresno City College. The Libray Museum is 700 square feet space that includes wirting memorabilia such as Soto's typwriters, manuscripts, first edition books, and his writing table. ReplyDeleteWhat a great role model for kids. He graduated high school with a 1.6 GPA, but still managed to make something of his life. He encourages kids to read and write, and "invest in themselves by way of education." And he stayed true to himself by not forgetting his roots...

Yes, it would be a great field trip for students, especially if they were reading one of his books as a class assignment. And he definitely would provide a good role model both for students who are doing well and for students who are struggling.
